SPECIAL stats are what defines a character in terms of physical and mental capabilities. They are intended to act as a numerical reflection of your character's capabilities, ranging from one to ten. The higher the special stat, the more skill a character has in that area. These numbers are intended to act as a measuring tool to compare character capabilities. Not every scientist is the most intelligent in their field, despite years of experience, for example.
Similar to Fallout: New Vegas, all your SPECIAL stats start at five (5) points. At the time of character creation, you are given 5 points to allocate across your different stats. Additionally, you may chose to lower a stat below five (5), to a minimum of one (1). Doing this grants one extra point to allocate, per point the stat was reduced by. Keep in mind, SPECIAL stats of five (5) are considered to be the capabilities of the average adult.
Whenever a character increases in rank, they may allocate two (2) additional points to any stat(s) of choice.
Strength
A character's raw physical power and muscle mass. A character with high strength can hit things harder and lift heavier objects.
Perception
A character's natural instincts and over all use of the five senses. A character with high perception can make more accurate ranged attacks and spot hidden enemies much easier.
Endurance
A character's ability to take damage and survive the harsh conditions of the wastelands. A character with high Endurance can survive more brutal attacks than most.
Charisma
A character's natural ability to be sociable and interact with the world. A character with high charisma tends to get treated better by those around them, and receives better deals in shops.
Intelligence
A character's ability to acquire and use knowledge. A character with high intelligence learns how to improve much faster than others.
Agility
A character's ability to move and act quickly. A character with high agility can do many more things in combat then their opponents, and have fantastic reflexes.
Luck
A character's ability to be in the right place at the right time. A character with high luck has the potential to deal heaps of damage and land far more deadly hits than other characters.
